Barracuda ramps up storage focus with appointment of Jason Howells as regional sales director

Barracuda Networks has promoted its UK country manager, Jason Howells, to regional sales director (RSD) of UK & Ireland as part of the security vendor’s continued push into the storage market.

Howells (pictured), who was as previously UK & Ireland country manager at the vendor, will focus on driving channel recruitment, vertical market expansion and sales of the company’s security and storage portfolio.

He will also look to increase adoption of Barracuda’s back up and data protection solutions – the fastest growing part of the company’s business.

Barracuda’s focus on growing its storage business was apparent in November 2012 when it appointed the president of EMC’s Backup Recovery Systems (BRS) Division, BJ Jenkins, as its CEO.

Howells will report to Barracuda’s VP and general manager EMEA, Wieland Alge, who lauds Howells’ storage credentials: “He’s been instrumental in closing the largest UK & Ireland deal to-date as well as the company’s largest-ever data protection deal,” he comments.

“He also brings a deep understanding of how to be successful with resellers which makes him the right guy to head up our growing channel partner development programme in the UK and Ireland.”

Steve Anthony, director at Barracuda reseller, E-ZU, is equally effusive: “Jason…has demonstrated his commitment to helping resellers get solid, profitable and recurring business from Barracuda Networks’ security solutions. His focus on data protection and storage solutions simply adds more revenue opportunities to the mix.”

Before joining Barracuda Networks in 2011, Howells was managing director at Secure Networks. Prior to that role he was UK distribution manager at McAfee.
