Microsoft announces OEM review
The future of Microsoft’s OEM partners could hang in the balance after the software giant today revealed it is reviewing the status of its global OEM channel.
In a statement, Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) said it has met with its UK OEMs, and will be reviewing its channel through the launch of an RFP (Request For Proposal) process.
It maintained no decisions have been yet made about how this will impact the channel, although the process will help it decide “whether it keeps the same number of OEMs in the UK, reduces or increases this number.”
It defines the RFP as: “Request For Proposal (RFP) is a tool that can be used to solicit and review a deep set of information from distributors (current and potential) about their business that will allow Microsoft to assess the distribution ecosystem in a given country or Area, and select distributors whose strategies and capabilities most closely align with those of Microsoft today and in the future.”
The vendor said that as OEM have only just been made aware of the potential restructuring, it can’t release any further information. It did however confirm that this is part of a global review that started yesterday.
