Exhibitors toast successful event at Vinopolis

Distributor ScanSource has completed the UK leg of its pan European tour with an event that attracted 350 partners to Vinopolis last week.
The targeted one day seminar was supported by more than 20 vendors from the communication and barcode industry including Avaya, Motorola, Intermec and Nuage.
However, it was smaller partners like Pioneer Pos that neatly summed up the benefit of the event, “It has been really valuable for us and the quality of the people we have met has been very good,” explained Gee Singgih, VP for the point of sale terminal supplier.
The European tour is in its third year and is aimed at senior decision makers within the channel. Although focused on Automatic Identification and Data Capture (AIDC) market, the event has evolved to incorporate more communication vendors.
ScanSource got into communications distribution three years ago when it acquired MTV Telecom. This gave it access to the Avaya distribution channel for voice which was strengthened to include data by the addition of the Nortel portfolio.
Kim Jennings, ScanSource Communications Europe’s UK sales manager highlighted a growth in partners that have a broader IP focused offering, “Certainly now with the increasing uptake in IP, there has been a crossover. For example we have resellers doing a big deployment in retail on the comms side and maybe they dabble in POS – or even other way around.”
Another new addition to the tour was ShoreTel, which signed up with ScanSource earlier this year. “They are an exciting company that bring something different to the table in a number of deals,” Jennings commented.
The ScanSource tour will be hitting Italy, Sweden and France over the next few months, and in Jennings’ view, “What today’s event is about is bringing together all the vendors and partners, looking for new opportunity and building relationships between our different communities.”
