The acquisition of THUS Mobile’s business and assets by Genesis Communications will create the UK’s largest independent mobile virtual service provider. .

Following its acquisition of Increase CRM a few weeks ago, mobile virtual service provider Genesis Communications has once again being spending – this time for Vodafone independent mobile service provider THUS Mobile’s business and assets.

The deal, for an undisclosed sum, makes Genesis the UK’s largest independent mobile virtual service provider, supporting more than 23,000 business customers with annual revenues of approximately £70m.

One of the details behind the acquisition is that the assets of Vodafone reseller, Intercell, are now secure. When THUS was purchased by Cable & Wireless last year, there was a possibility that Vodafone could exercise its right to take back Intercell’s customers given the change of ownership:  this has now been averted, however, by the transfer of Intercell’s assets, including its customers, to Genesis.

Genesis, meanwhile, says THUS Mobile resellers will be able to sell a wider set of solutions including hosted IT, data and software services. It claims the firm’s existing 18 resellers will be able to offer customers a broader portfolio of software-as-a-service (SaaS) products and services.

Says Piers Linney, director of Genesis: “This transaction enables THUS resellers to offer a package of voice and data services that is much more relevant for today’s fast moving businesses. Customers no longer want voice and data services in isolation. Instead, converged systems offer greater cost savings and increased productivity for businesses, as well as enabling resellers to strengthen and secure relationships with their existing mobile customer base.”

The previous acquisition of Increase CRM means that Genesis is now a major provider of hosted Microsoft Dynamics CRM services.
