UK waiting for lower cost EMC unified storage hardware

Disti Magirus has today launched a new range of its vBundle unified datacentre offerings based on the EMC’s VNX and VNXe storage products launched in January.
Magirus has European exclusivity around the VMware, Cisco and EMC pre-configured solution for resellers. The discounted range offers current EMC technology but with a lower entry cost to attract SMEs.
“The vBundle has been overwhelmingly well received but UK reaction was that some wanted to wait for VNX as it’s the latest technology,” confirmed Denise Bryant, UK managing director at Magirus. The firm has already taken orders for the new range today and Bryant believes that the launch will help accelerate adoption and the number of partners offering the solutions up from around a dozen at present.
The VNX-based vBundles comprise of three different variations with a base of Cisco C200 rack mount or Nexus 5000 servers; VMware vSphere virtualisation platform; and Magirus integration services for tailored assembly and configuration.
The top end VNX 5300 vBundle uses the EMC VNX5300 unified storage platform with IP connectivity or FcoE, four Cisco UCS C200 servers and the VMware vSphere enterprise plus acceleration pack. This high end configuration is suitable for up to 100 virtual machines and includes enhanced storage management, providing more flexible storage provisioning for better performance and the potential to use Solid State Disks and optional Fibre Channel over Ethernet connectivity for Block Level Storage.
Bryant confirmed there would be a number of new vBundles coming from the disti over the year aimed at offering resellers an easier deployment strategy.
