Brocade (BRCD)has announced details of its ambitious Brocade One network architecture, which the firm claims will help simplify the virtualisation of applications by removing network layers, simplifying management and protecting existing technology investments.

Announced at the Brocade Technology day in June, the heart of the strategy is deep multi-protocol support and compatibility with all emerging virtualisation platforms using a range of open standards.
Innovation cycle
Speaking at its event in New York, Mike Klayko, CEO of Brocade unveiled the new technology saying: “Driven by the growth of server virtualisation, continued growth of data and the proliferation of devices connected to the network, the networking industry is on the cusp of a major innovation cycle.

“Virtualised datacentres will enable the realisation of cloud architectures where services and applications can be delivered on-demand and at much greater speeds than is possible today,” he adds.

At the heart of the push will be its new Virtual Cluster Switching (VCS) product family including a converged fabric switch, converged fabric operating system and converged fabric management tools. Built using technology it gained in the $2bn acquisition of Foundry in 2008, VCS will support almost every protocol including iSCSI, Ethernet, Fibre Channel, Fibre Channel over Ethernet and CIF with extensive support for 10 GigE.
