Channel firms sign up to sleep out
More channel companies have signed up to sleep rough to raise money for Action For Children as part of the tech industry’s annual Byte Night.
Staff from IT distributor Computerlinks are joining forces with colleagues from Metadigm and Check Point to sleeping out in Cambridge on October 8.
Says Barry Mullins, BT business analyst and Alexandra Kennedy, deputy account manager at Computerlinks: “We believe that it is really important for companies like ourselves to get involved with the local community, it is very easy to forget the great causes that are being supported on a regional level. Action For Children is a national charity that works with young people on an individual level; we are proud to be part of an industry wide collaboration to support such a worthwhile cause. By sponsoring us, not only will you help to keep thousands of young people off the streets, you’ll also help them build better lives with secure accommodation, education and training opportunities.”
Meanwhile, BlackBerry distributor Z-Three’s Lara McIvor will also be among the 700 people sleeping out on the streets of London on Byte Night. Lara is hoping to raise well in excess of the minimum £2,000 from friends and colleagues for the charity.
Sales manager Lara says: “Byte Night is a terrific initiative. Our night of discomfort is insignificant compared to the discomfort and inconvenience of real homelessness experienced by 75 thousand young people last year alone, but it’s great that the tech industry can pull together like this.”
