Imerja sews up hosting contract with Alder Hey Children’s Hospital

Bolton-based IT service provider Imerja has been selected to deliver a significant datacentre hosting project to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.

Imerja will securely host the hospital’s data, including patient information, within a new data infrastructure at its own site.

Ian Jackson, managing director of Imerja, says: “Alder Hey delivers world-class international standards based IT as one of Europe’s biggest children’s hospitals and one of the UK’s top performing NHS Trusts. The hospital does truly fantastic work and we’re delighted to be able to contribute by providing the technology infrastructure to support the team.

“By owning the hardware and renting the service Alder Hey doesn’t need to invest lots of capital and has the ability to scale. The hospital will have access to a world-class datacentre, which will match the new buildings it is set to move to in the near future.”

Imerja’s private cloud will save the hospital both the space and cost of an on-site datacentre, and provides Alder Hey with the distance required of secure disaster recovery solutions. In the future, infrastructure-as-a-service will be delivered to Liverpool Women’s Hospital and other trusts from Alder Hey via this cloud. Alder Hey will then function as a service provider, saving smaller trusts capital investment. Virgin Media will operate as a partner in the hosting project, providing the link between Imerja and the hospitals.
