Huawei and 20:20 Mobile agree pan-European distribution agreement

Huawei is looking to carve out a slice of the lucrative smartphone and tablet market with the introduction of a range of its own branded devices in Europe.

The Chinese telecoms firm has signed a pan-European agreement with UK-based mobile handset and accessories distributor 20:20 Mobile to cover distribution and fulfillment of Huawei devices across Europe.

Huawei’s range will sit beside its existing range of operator-branded devices. 20:20 Mobile will supply the smartphones, tablets, mobile broadband dongles and mobile Wi-Fi hotspots to network operators, MVNOs, mobile retailers, grocers and dedicated mobile and IT dealers.

The vendor says the agreement will the Crewe-based distributor help it reach new consumer and business markets in Europe as it seeks to establish itself among the leading smartphone manufacturers.

Says Huawei device vice president Wang Jiading: “Europe is a vitally important market for Huawei going forward. Huawei will launch a range of high-end smartphones and tablets under its own brand in 2011, and it is crucial for us to partner with a distributor who can expand our retail channels, and add real value to our proposition in the process.

“We selected 20:20 Mobile for its long track record and its leading expertise in supply and logistics in the handset and accessories market.”

20:20 mobile group CEO Meinie Oldersma adds: “Huawei has led the mobile broadband revolution in Europe through supply of its USB dongles and mobile Wi-Fi hotspots.

“Its ambition for its brand in the smartphone and tablet markets is considerable. Its R&D resource and partnership-approach will distinguish it in the market as it moves forward.”
