Although a relatively young company, Veenendaal did confirm it is in discussion with mobile operators including Swisscom and Belgacom about offering MobileIron as a value-add direct from the carrier, although Tinker believes that this is not likely for some time.
The cost of the platform is either as a one-off perpetual licence purchase plus annual maintenance fee or on a per user per month basis. Perpetual licences costs have not been disclosed although per month equates to between £3 to £5 per user, excluding the cost of any value-added services offered by partners. Monthly plans are sold on 12 month blocks for a minimum of 100 users with partners earning an unspecified percentage of annual contract value. Partners can also charge for managing support and maintenance with the opportunity to manage renewals.
Cost savings
Tinker is keen to point out potential MobileIron’s cost saving ability highlighting a US company that was able to avoid massive roaming charges by alerting the IT department as users started making excessive international charges due to the wrong plans in place. “These incidents gone unchecked could potentially have costs thousands of dollars,” he explains.
The selection of Cloud Distribution, a relatively newcomer but the brain child of Scott Dobson, previous founder of founded VCOMM, is part of a plan to have one distie per territory. However, MobileIron also confirmed that Cloud Distribution is not guaranteed exclusivity around its product portfolio.
MobileIron is still a relatively immature channel network with less than a dozen partners across EMEA and the firm has sketchy plans for training or certification. Although as the first mover and innovator in the space, Veenendaal claims the level of interest has been “phenomenal” and the vendor plans to aggressively grow in EMEA and support partners through targeted events and seminars.
