Apple revamps retail stores
It's already found a place in the nation's, and indeed the world's, hearts. Now, Apple wants to use the iPad 2 as an in-store tool in celebration of ten years of retail trading.
Yes, it's ten years since Apple stores first hit the high street and there is little argument that the company and the brand have had a significant impact on the way the consumer tech world operates. Fevered buying and long queues are par for the course at Apple's retail outlet openings, as is interactivity as consumers are actively encouraged to get up close and personal with the company's products.
Now, Apple has taken the step of using its own products as a retail tool, installing iPad 2's in stores to display information next to each of its in-store products, rather than using paper signs and printed cards to mark out product details. In line with the Smart Sign app, Apple has also relaunched its Apple Store iPhone app, now offering specific store information according to the user's location.
It's a novel approach by Apple, and one which really ought to be applauded. By taking advantage of its own technology, allowing users to view it up close in the process, Apple could very well end up booting sales of its tablet, while also making the overall retail experience a more free-flowing, pleasant experience.
Further, Apple stores will now offer a free Personal Setup service, guiding the buyer through how to setup and use their purchased device so that they can leave stores with a working model rather than have to wait until they get back home.
Apple now has over 300 stores worldwide, with 29 in the UK.
