Nokia reveals two new handsets
Finnish mobile manufacturer Nokia has revealed two new smartphones aimed at business users and entertainment enthusiasts respectively.
Both new phones come with the company's updated Symbian software, with new icons and usability enhancements including improved text input, a faster browser and refreshed Ovi Maps, Nokia's mobile mapping tool.
"We are further strengthening Nokia's smartphone portfolio with these two new devices, both of which offer a more beautiful and intuitive user experience," says Jo Harlow, head of Nokia's Smart Devices business. "With these new products and more Symbian devices and user enhancements coming in the near future, we are confident we can keep existing Nokia smartphone customers engaged, as well as attract new first-time and competitor smartphone users."
The Nokia E6 business smartphone has a full QWERTY keypad and a high resolution touch display, plus it's made from premium glass and stainless steel materials and has 'exceptional battery life'. The phone also gives business users access to Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft Communicator Mobile and Microsoft SharePoint.
The entertainment-focused Nokia X7 has a 4-inch display, and an 8 Megapixel camera for capturing pictures and HD-quality video. It also comes preloaded with a couple of games.
Both phones come with Symbian Anna, Nokia's latest software update which includes a set of features for business users, including true enterprise grade security with hardware accelerated encryption, plus new email features such as full meeting request support.
Symbian Anna is also going to be made available on newly-shipping Nokia N8, Nokia E7, Nokia C7 and Nokia C6-01 devices and the software enhancement comes in light of Nokia's move to the Windows 7 platform as its primary OS. With the announcement of Symbian Anna, Nokia seems to be suggesting that it will be supporting and developing its own software alongside Windows 7 for the foreseeable future.
