All-in-Ones dominate EMEA printer market
Sales of printers in EMEA grew 8.8 percent in unit terms during the second quarter of 2010 compared to the same period a year ago, according to the latest figures from London-based technology research company Context.
This was in marked contrast to the flat growth in the previous quarter where sales grew at less than 0.5 percent.
“We saw the fastest growth in sales of All-in-One (AIO) laser printers,” says Jeremy Davies, CEO and co-founder of Context. Sales of All-in-Ones were up 46.3 percent in the second quarter of 2010 compared to a year ago as businesses looked for reductions in print costs by consolidating their printer fleets.
“The declining love affair of consumers with single-function inkjet printers over the same period was reflected in a sales drop for the category of 21.8 percent, while AIO inkjet printer sales grew 5.3 percent,” adds Davies.
Of the major Western European economies, the UK performed well with units sales up 12.1 percent in Q2 2010 compared with last year, mainly due to strong AIO inkjet printer sales growth, up 27.0 percent year on year.
The leading printer vendor during the second quarter of 2010 was HP with 39.4 percent of total unit sales in the region, up from 38.0 percent on the previous quarter. Second was Canon (18.4 percent), then Epson (14.6 percent), Brother (8.0 percent), Samsung (6.9 percent) and Lexmark (5.4 percent).
