Apple Korea has begun a recall of first-generation iPod nanos, following reports of overheating and, in a few instances, of the music player exploding.
The move was prompted by the South Korean government after it had collected 46 incident reports.
“If Apple had delayed recalls, its image would have suffered a blow,” Park In-kyu, an official with the Korea Agency for Technology & Standards, told The Korea Herald.
He added that Apple executives will be travelling to Seoul later this month to brief government officials about the problem.
Apple declined to comment.
It id not the first time Apple has had a problem with the original iPod nano’s battery. Last year there were a spate of similar incidents in Japan. Apple agreed to replace the affected players.
