Managed Service Provision — Backup and Recovery.

CommVault’s unified, single platform approach supports the MSP model, as it allows customers to quickly and easily deploy and add modules as storage needs change. By using Simpana as the core management tool for its Backup and Recovery network, IFB can now offer a simple to use, secure web based console that monitors activity and recovers files and data as the customer demands.

“This flexibility provides our customers with an enterprise level backup and recovery solution without the need for major capital and revenue investment,” adds Gordon. “This we believe is unique to CommVault. The business benefits of offering a backup service as a product are hard to ignore. Customers not only reduce capital expense, but also have the added benefit of saving on hardware resources.”

IFB’s roll out was described by Gordon as “super smooth” and has given the team an added level of confidence as they upgrade over 30 clients on existing agreements to CommVault. “Most customers have less than 1Terabyte of weekly sign ups, but in this mid market space - until now - there has been a huge lack of understanding and the services on offer were just too expensive.”

All of IFB’s services are managed and supported by its own in-house Technical Support team. For more complex client visits CommVault engineers are on hand to help, working in parallel with the IFB team. Software installations usually take less than a day, even for larger clients using IFB’s Tier 4 data centre where 6 to 10 Terabytes of daily backups, and weekly backups as large as 30 Terabytes, are commonplace. “Our current system has 240 Terabytes of resilience and with predefined customer policies in place we can ensure every client benefits from a smooth recovery process,” said Gordon.

As IFB has become more familiar with CommVault the team has realised that the software suite has become a door opener for them. With Simpana 8 it now becomes possible to not only backup the data centre, but also a customer’s mobile data, so there is a real opportunity for IFB to outsource meeting a customer’s demands for business continuity. “Many of our clients are developing SMBs with up to 250 people on their network so the truth is they are not about to invest £30,000 in a system, instead they will take the managed service route. This is a very important market for us,” Gordon adds.

Access to the Simpana suite also extends to IFB, and its customers, other critical data management capabilities including remote site disaster recovery, compliance archiving, encryption and deduplication.

“CommVault now sits at the heart of our business, and is becoming increasingly important as we take more connections. IFB is no longer just about delivering Internet services, it’s about introducing dynamic new ways to guarantee a cost effective, highly resilient, compliant way of managing data for business continuity and ensuring more efficient day to day operations for all of our customers.”

Vince Blackall, EMEA channel director at CommVault adds, “Simply providing a hosted data service is no longer enough. ISP’s like Internet For Business are increasingly called upon to add value by managing applications and providing clear strategies for the recovery and archiving of data. CommVault helps address these needs head on by creating strong partnerships and offering technical expertise in the design and building of data management solutions for businesses of all sizes.”
